How did your race conception come about?
Jerry Diehl, Tom Landis, Don Lindley, and Mike Pfefferkorn are the co-race directors and founders. We've run Chain O'Lakes State Park every week for the past eight years and we collectively decided that it was time to give back to the park.
The Indiana Trail 100 is a nonprofit event with the proceeds going back into the park.
What makes runners sign up for your race?
We're the only 100 mile race in Indiana and we've received overwhelmingly positive feedback about the course and the race. It's an exceptional course for an ultra runner looking to finish their first 100 miler and a great place for a seasoned 100 mile runner to get their P.R.
While Indiana can be a little unpredictable with April weather, temperatures should be very conducive for fast, long, uninterrupted runs. This course will allow runners to build up a great tempo. At the same time, there are some tricky spots to the course that will wear out a runner if he/she is not fully prepared. Those spots will remain a mystery until you discover it for yourself.
What's unique about your race that sets you apart?
We believe that both the runners and spectators will notice the attention to detail out on the course. We also have a very strong monitoring and support system in place, so we'll do everything but run the race for you.
It will be a very runner-friendly and spectator-friendly course. We want the runners and their families/friends to celebrate this event with us. It will be so customer service-oriented that we may have the first concierge service for a 100 mile event.
This event was created for ultra runners by ultra runners.
What does your schwag bag and finisher awards look like?
The schwag bag and finisher awards are still to be determined, pending sponsorship considerations. The buckles/medals are in the conceptual stage but the theme will be indigenous to the area.

This event will be a celebration for a state that is getting heavily involved in the ultra scene. We expect a very large Midwest presence but also believe it will be a great way for ultra runners all over to country to kick start their 100/50 mile season under favorable conditions.
The 50 milers will run the same course as the 100 milers and we anticipate a really strong contingent to compete in this category. Part of the course will have a cross country terrain but most of it will be wooded, surrounded by beautiful lakes.
