This shirt is pull-out-of-your-dirty-clothes-hamper-to-wear-again good.
We know what you are thinking: wool tends to conjure up ideas of hot, itchy sweaters, not soft, supple, breathable fabrics you would want to wear while running. But Smartwool has been making amazing apparel for all outdoor activites for a decade, and just this spring they are introducing a new product built entirely for the trail runner.
The Cortina Tech Tee is a blend of wool and polyester (75% and 25% respectively) that wicks perspiration better than any synthetic we’ve tested. The finest merino wool was sourced for this piece and lends a soft feel to the fabric. Strategically placed Jersey knit panels reduce abrasion (for those who carry water packs or hydration belts) as well as offer enhanced breathability.
A secure envelope pocket at the center of the waist is perfect for some mid-run snacks or a music player. The pocket also features a grommet for your headphone cord.
Merino naturally protects against UV rays. The Cortina Tech Tee offers UPF 25 protection from the sun.
What we have appreciated most about this piece is that merino is naturally anti-microbial so it doesn’t retain odor the way a synthetic shirt does. We tested this shirt over a 4-day, 4-run time period without washing and the shirt refused to stink. The Cortina Tech Tee has become a go-to shirt for our long-runs.
