On February 8, 2012 my buddy and Montrail athlete Sean Meissner headed out to the Columbia River Gorge for a run on the trails that are usually covered with snow this time of year. We ran the Pacific Crest Trail all the way from The Bridge of the Gods (Washington State and Oregon border) all the way to Heartbreak Ridge Trail. During this run we passed some beautiful lakes, a few hikers, and as we came ripping around a corner we realized that we were staring at a huge herd of elk! They were so close and we actually caused somewhat of a stampede. These huge and powerful beasts tore up the mountain side as I chased them with my little video recorder. Once they were out of sight I looked at Sean, and the tilled-up earth from them fleeing, in amazement. It was pretty cool…especially since we were so close that we could smell their distinct and pungent odor even minutes after they were out of sight. We carried on to the summit of Table Mountain and then descended back to the P.C.T. and the car logging a four hour run and 18 miles. I put together this little video and have attached my Garmin Connect data HERE …. Enjoy….and…Happy Trails!
